Amaryllis

I bought this amaryllis at Lowe's for $5 on black Friday. I planted it at my office the following Monday. This week I became worried that it was going to bloom while I was out of the office for the New Year holiday (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). I usually turn my heat off when I leave my office at night, but I left it on Wednesday night and when I came in on Thursday morning, this is what I saw

I am enjoying it so much. By noon, the second flower had popped open

And I think I see a third bloom smack dab in the middle of these two blooms. See what you think.

The Graduate

My friend, Jackie, graduated from college on Saturday. She's British and had her degree from England, but not all of the credits transferred so it took her a little over a year to make up the credits. Jackie is one of those people who is always thinking of others. She is also caught in the "sandwich" generation. Her mom lives with her, she has two adult children, and she looks after her two grandchildren quite a bit. I had a small celebration for her Saturday evening at my house.

Grandpa's Hat

Continuing with my daughter's childhood album, here's a page taken at my parent's house of Heather and a hat my dad would wear when mowing the grass or working in the garden.

Finishing up

This year I have been making a scrapbook for my daughter's best friend of her little girl, Ella. I am nearing the end. Her first birthday is Saturday and after including pictures of that, I will have the first year captured forever for her. My daughter will give it to her friend as a Christmas present. I have had the best time scrapping pages for it. Here's one of the last pages I scrapped. It is a simple layout as I wanted to keep the focus on the pictures. She's such a cutie!

Down the stairs to have a peek

We always had a hard time getting Heather to stay in bed on Christmas eve. She was always so excited. I love this picture of her peeking downstairs between the stockings.

Great Grandma

As I mentioned before, I am going back through old pictures and making an album of my daughter's childhood. I found some pictures of my husband's grandma which would be Heather's great grandma and decided to scrap it. I have a couple more that I will probably do to turn this in to a two page layout later in the week. Heather was born on her great grandparents 51st wedding anniversary and she was the first great grandchild. This picture is a celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary so she was nine years old in the photo. Can I just say that I am enjoying doing this album?

The first of December...already!

I am amazed at how fast this year is going. It is hard to imagine that it is December already. I had a nice Thanksgiving and a visit with my MIL who really enjoyed her scrapbook. She cried when we gave it to her and then looked at it over and over again. I am so happy that she was pleased with it. There were pictures of a new great grandchild that she had never seen so that made it all the more special. Here are a couple pictures of her with it.

Mid-Evil Princess and her Jester???

My niece just sent me this cute picture of my great niece who was a princess for Halloween. It may be a bit fuzzy as it was a camera phone picture. I'm waiting on her to send the real ones. I'm beginning to think she sent me this one just to tease me with how cute the good ones taken with a camera are. I'm thinking the dog, Jack, is either her royal subject or the court jester-not sure which but he did manage to get in the picture!

Wal Mart

I'm venting about Wal Mart now so if you are a fan of theirs, you may not want to read the remainder of this post. Since scrapbooking wasn't around when my daughter was growing up, I have decided to go back and scrap some pictures of her childhood. On the advice of some scrappy friends, who told me to have the pics copied so I would always have one, I scanned a handful of pictures that I wanted to start with. Today at lunch I took my picture card to WM to develop these pics. I used the machine, ordered some 5 x 7's and some wallets and waited because that size takes awhile. Twenty minutes later I give the pics to the lady at the photo counter to ring up and she asks if I would like her to cut them apart for me. I thought I would have her do that for me and save me some time and then I saw her talking to another lady and then they both came up to me and said they couldn't give me the pictures because they were professionally done and there were copywright laws. I said no problem and that I would just print them at home. This is where the two ladies went off and spewed at me about it being against the law, and companies would lose money etc. One of the ladies shred the pictures and the other one was loud and she went on for a few minutes while I just stood there. When they had finished, I told them the company that made the pictures is no longer in business, the pictures are over 30 years old, and to top that off, the pictures weren't made in the USA, they were from a company in England where we were stationed when my daughter was born. The lady had been so loud that a manager had made his way over to us and he said that if I signed a form they had that stated that copywright laws were not going to be violated, that they would sell me the pictures. Now this would mean that since they had been shredded, I would have to go through the machine, order them, and wait for them to be printed again. I told him I had been humiliated enough for one day and it really wasn't a problem for me to print them at home. GRrrr! If I would have went with regular 4 x 6 prints, it probably would have been okay. If I would have said no when she asked if I wanted her to cut them apart, it probably would have been okay. Guess I am printing pictures tonight!

My 4 Sons

That title makes me think of the old TV show "My Three Sons". It would probably seem cheesy by today's standards but I always liked it and watched a bunch of reruns on TVLand a few years ago when I wasn't feeling well. I used that title on this page for my mother in law's album. The journaling is hard to read in the picture but it says;

"Left to right: Terry, Randy, Gary, and David. It is a rare event when all four of the boys are all together. This picture was taken when they were all home for their father's funeral. March 1991"

I won! I won!

I am so excited that I won the blog candy over on Sandy Windsor's web site. Sandy is one of my favorite scrappers and I love checking out her page at
http://detailsbysandy.blogspot.com/

Check out her page, see the goodies I won (lucky me), and leave her some comments. For those that are new to blogs, when you get to the bottom of a page, click on "older posts". You won't want to miss any of Sandy's pages. They are that awesome!!

My sister's name is Sandy, and it is a name that you don't hear all the time, so I feel a special connection to Sandy Windsor!!

Weekend in sight

I am so glad it is the end of the week and the weekend is almost here. I like my job but there are 100 other things I would rather be doing! Here are a couple pages I finished recently. I think I am going to use the first one as the first page in my mother in laws album. The two pager goes in to the Israel album.

Almost done with MIL's album

I've been plugging along with my mother in law's album and I have just about finished it. Here are a couple more pages.

Friday at last!

It's been a busy week at work and on the home front, my daughter's been sick with some sort of virus. Finding time to scrap was difficult but I did crank out a few pages throughout the week. The first page has a foil paper so it didn't photograph well but looks good in real life. The title is hard to read but it simply says "Dave's Family". This is for my mother in law's album which is going well.

More family pages for mother in law's album

Here are a couple more pages for my mother in law's album. I hope to have it finished by Thanksgiving and give it to her for Christmas. She has five children but I was only able to get pictures from the oldest three and their families. She has several great grandchildren (one really new one) that I am sure she is going to love having pictures of. Here is one of her grandson in Oklahoma and of her only daughter and her family and her granddaughter and her family. Hopefully I can post them in that order!
